Quilting Accomplished
P1010179.JPG I finished quilting the entire thing. There were times I thought it would never ever get done, but whenever the mood struck, I pulled it out and worked on it for a while. Eight (EIGHT!!!) years later, I'm done!

This is my very first quilt made from my own idea (not from a picture) and my very first handquilting project. I wanted a lot of quilting, and the straight line pattern I chose worked with either 1 1/2" spacing, or 3/4" spacing. Guess which one I chose? Yup, 3/4" apart over the entire thing. Until I got to the border and then I went to 1" spacing between lines. Now that it's really done, I think it looks great. But I hope I'm smart enough to choose a more open pattern for the next one.

Now I just have to get the binding on (yeah, yeah, I know, so long as it's not a binding party. That phrase scares Brit!)

Shopping Lists
I was at a lovely wedding this weekend, where I saw several of the guests were wearing shawls. It was a chilly spring day, and I would have loved to wear a handknit shawl myself. This will be the perfect project to focus my shopping at Maryland Sheep and Wool. I want a rectangular lacework shawl or stole, but nothing too fussy. I'm thinking about one of the Morehouse Merino kits (Violetta, Contessa, or LaScala), so I'll definitely stop by their booth first to pick colors. Hmmm, what will go with my dress up clothes?? That's a bigger question. I'd love something silvery-purple...

I also visited the Quilters Heritage Celebration Show in Lancaster on Friday. I didn't have very much time at all since I was on the babysitter's clock, but I saw this gorgeous clamshell quilt that I want to remember.

Rose Palace (detail), by Ann Horton of California

The fabrics are brightly colored, and the quilter used colorful handstitching and embellishments to put it all together. I love the clamshell pattern, and I want to make one someday! I contented myself with a clamshell quilting stencil.

More socks...
I'm still taking a break from my quilting, but I think my hand will be rested soon. I finished one of a new pair of Conwys. I think I'll give it to my dad for his birthday on Friday, and then give him the second one at Christmas. Lazy? Or just realistic?

sock_steps The socks may be a little snug, (Trekking XXL on size 1s) but they are the perfect color for him. I hope he likes them!

I also started a new sweater for my 2-year-old. She has just grown out of the two sweaters I knit her when she was small, so it's time for something new! I chose a cable and lace pattern and I'm knitting it in navy mercereized cotton. It hurts a little bit at this small gauge, but I think it looks gorgeous. (pictures to come) It's a warm up for the denim fest I'm planning for summer.

Thanks for the nice comments on my audio blog-- I love the idea of podcasting with John. Knitting in the sidecar, anyone? This might not have mass appeal...

Audio Blogging
Hey! Audio-blogging is easy, but kind of embarrassing. With the furious proliferation of podcasts, I've found myself wanting to try some audio blogging of my own. Trouble is I don't have that much to say... Click below to hear my very first, possibly last, trial audio blog via www.odeo.com.
