I Rant Because I Care
I was thrilled when a Starbucks opened in my town, but the new Starbucks does not provide the experience I expect from the brand. They don't carry my favorite scone, the Maple Oat Nut scone, or my second favorite scone, the Pumpkin scone, and when I ask for these items the manager tells me they are not popular enough and no one was ordering them. That may be true, but another Starbucks nearby has these staples and often runs out of my favorites early in the day.

At the new Starbucks, it seems that every time I place an order the staff loudly corrects the order and tells me the business reason why they cannot fill it as placed.

"We don't have a restaurant license..." "No one orders that scone so we don't have it..." "We don't put those out until after lunch..."

Additionally, the store has been running a shameless self-promotion to sell more pounds of beans"to meet their goal." An internal sales goal? This month, with so many businesses and charities raising money to aid hurricane survivors, I really am not interested in helping a big corporation get richer. (Beyond my $4 tea and cookie, that is.) How does this help my local community? Why should I care? Finally, the question "Would you like a pound of beans with that?" seems more appropriate to the local McDonald's.

After yesterday's visit which included all of the above annoyances, I left without buying anything, and I'll be taking my business to other nearby locations rather than visit this one again for a while. I hope this comment will help the management address conformity issues, because I do like Starbucks and its products and I look forward to the same high quality experience I have at other locations.

Now you know why I haven't been posting recently. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all! I sent these comments to Starbucks, so I hope it will be received as constructive criticism and not just cranky customeritis.

This weekend we're off to the beach for the first time this year (maybe we waited a little too long, ya think?) and then maybe I'll feel inspired to pick up my camera and document all the knitting going on here. Toodles!
