Settling in...
We're home! Lydia charmed our fellow in-flight passengers, who made an effort to entertain her every time her attention wandered to the aisles (bless you, fellow passengers!); Tiffany took excellent care of us, keeping me on the straight and narrow food path and providing lots of excellent shopping opportunities. We both discovered that even with two mamas, two kids are a lot of work (note to self: two kids are a LOT OF WORK!).

The last few months I've been dreaming of getting back to my quilt projects. I had a very quilty trip to Seattle-- I visited In the Beginning quilt fabrics (true paradise) and Pacific Fabrics (a good all-around fabric store, where I worked part-time long ago). As a birthday treat I bought a whole stack of fabrics at In the Beginning and I'm planning a quilt to hang as a headboard for our bed. I love spreading out the fabrics and mixing colors and textures. I'm itching to CUT!

Turns out I share my August 20th birthday with several other knit-bloggers (as mentioned on Dogs Steal Yarn-- hey Cari, I'm 31, too!). The very first knit blog I ever found was Knitting and Other Stuff, and I just found out we also have the same birthday! Happy belated birthday Jackie, and thanks for introducing me to knit blogs!

It's good to be home. House update later this week...

Inspired by Insanity
Lydia and I are winging off to safety tomorrow. We are removing ourselves from the whirlwind that will surround both our houses over the next 7 days. Painters will be cursing us as they apply coats 7 & 8 to the kitchen cabinets (hey, it's not my fault he didn't check the chip to the can...), plasterers will be cursing us as they are put off another week due to a still-leaking roof, tree surgeons will be cursing us because we want our stumps GROUND and we are not easy to track down for in person payment (let me put the stupid check in the MAIL, PLEASE!). John and his ragtag band of sainted volunteers will pack up the house and move its contents to the new house. I will take a break from fretting over how best to pack THIS to get safely over THERE and just get the hell out of the way. Lydia and I are going to visit Tiffany, who will soothe us with calm and with retail therapy. We'll be back next Thursday, when the storm has concentrated itself over ONE location, which is all I can handle these days. See you soon!

Insomnia Sucks
After months of sleep deprivation related to pregnancy and motherhood, you would think I could sleep through anything, anytime, anywhere. Instead, I am prone to waking up with Lydia at 3:30 a.m. and staying awake for hours, even after I've put her to bed. I've tried deep breathing, clearing my mind, allowing my mind to wander, focusing on sleep-- all to no avail. This morning I am trying chamomile tea. Wish me luck.

Out with the Funk!
It's August! It's hot! I don't have a job! It's the lazy days of summer. I am ignoring the fact that we are moving in 2 weeks and having fun instead. (Packing? How much time can packing really take? I have *two weeks*!)

John and I took a daytrip on Sunday. We went to Renninger's for some browsing and then hit a streamside hamburger stand for lunch. Next time, I pledge to try a pineapple milkshake if John tries a peanut butter one. On the way home we stopped at the LANDFILL to see the scenic view-- REALLY! These are all destinations we have been wanting to visit for a couple of years. What better time than mid-move?

I love August. It's my birthday later this month, and then it's our wedding anniversary. It's hot, hot, and humid, requiring lots of trips to my grandmother's FREEZING cold pool. The cicadas are buzzing, and the streets of our college town are empty. The thick air slows us down, but I'm in no rush for fall. See you soon!
