Kate's Perspective

Awwww. So cute. (And I made it myself! *blush*) It's the first thing I've completed that she can wear-- all the little sweaters I've been working on are for next winter.

The Chester County, PA stitch-n-bitch is a reality! There are three of us meeting in about a week-- any other takers? Email me for details.

I've started a new pair of socks in Opal crocodile multi (the red one!). I love the colors. I think I'll be adding a little sock yarn (Koigu, Opal Cotton) to my stash while at MDSW and I'll also be considering a ball winder and swift. And probably some other stuff I don't even know about yet. I hope the baby goes easy on us tomorrow!

See you in Maryland!

I LOVE THE BABY SWING!

I was having such a hard time getting 45 minutes to cook breakfast, eat it, shower, and dress each morning (and believe me, I really wanted 90 minutes). And then, I finally figured out I could bring the baby swing into the KITCHEN and cook and eat while the baby goes into suspended animation brought on by the cryogenic baby sleep inducer. Whether she wants to or not, she can't help closing her little eyes. Aaaaah. FOOD! This works for dinner, too.

I finished all the little pieces for the aran sweater, and put them aside for a little rest before seaming. I'm going to quickly knit up a strawberry hat, and hope that it fits Lydia's rapidly growing head and that the hot weather we've been having lets up for one minute so she can wear it. It's really true that babies outgrow clothes in one wearing-- some of the cutest little gifts have gotten just 2 wearings, and during the second one, the baby looks like the Hulk, ripping out of her teensy little rags.

I really would like to make a quick summer tank for myself, but am afraid I will never finish it and that I will never find a pattern that works for my new motherly physique. I'll let you know if I find anything! Suggestions of course are also welcome.

Fussy Knitting

I finished the sleeves! Unfortunately, the yarn I chose (Maggi's Aran Tweed in Bark) does not have the highest stitch definition for an aran pattern. I chose it for the color, and didn't realize that the colorful slubs would obscure the patternwork. Oh well, on the positive, the mistakes are not as noticeable. Several times I got mixed up in the double moss stitch portion, but I only bothered to fix the stitches that resulted in triple moss. I even added an extra twist to one of the cables by accident, and yup, left it in. This is pretty scandalous stuff for the knit blog ring!

I am really inspired to challenge myself, learn new techniques, and improve my workmanship when I see everyone's work. But this time, I'm cutting myself some slack and having a different kind of fun. Slacker fun.

Who knows, I might even finish this project soon! I've got a good start on the left front. More progress to come this weekend, since Lydia's Grandmother Baldwin is coming to hold her!

I am finally moving forward on the aran sweater. I ripped it out to the start of the raglan shapings twice: first, because my hormone-addled brain thought I had skipped a set of decreases early on... but I hadn't [Why must I realize that I DIDN'T make a mistake when I've already committed to redoing an entire section? Couldn't I blissfully go on thinking I was correcting an error, instead of knowing that I am wasting my scant free time on a redo? What a pain.]; then I ripped it out a second time because my work didn't look as pretty as the first time. Tell me, do I look like a woman with time for perfectionism?

Finally I finished the little back and cast on for the sleeves. Now I remember what was so hard the first time I made this sweater. All the sleeve increases are made in the double moss stitch portion, and the written pattern stops matching the actual piece. And then I have to think, and then I overthink, and then I make mistakes (real and imaginary). Wish me luck!

And for the grandparents who read this blog for my non-knitting endeavors, here's what else I've been working on:
