I customized a design from an old layette book, and scaled it down to newborn size. I was very detailed with my calculations at first, but around the neck area I started fudging and thought, "Oh, I'll just cross that bridge when I come to it..." Well, when I came to it, I got stuck. I had more stitches than I had originally calculated and so I put it down. The next day I had a baby. Now I have a 75% done sweater for a brand new baby, a 75% capacity mommy-brain, and a 6-week old baby that's growing bigger every day! I need a knitting executive to help me boss my knitting around! In the meantime, I've taken the easy route and cast on for a beautiful little aran sweater for Lydia to wear next fall.
**See my new Denise Interchangeable Needles? I got 'em at Noble Knits-- perfect for knitting while holding a baby. P.S. I got my program guide for the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival yesterday. I'm counting the days! Sunday, March 28, 2004

Yesterday was full of milestones:
Saturday, March 13, 2004
I got the Great Stash Redistribution Project box last night! What fun to sort through the piles of other people's castoff yarn and patterns without them looking over my shoulder. I took out a great book entitled Knits for Babies and Toddlers and contributed three balls of variegated chenille, an adult hat pattern, and a knitting magazine. I've got lots more stash to share when the other boxes come my way. This is a nice break for a new mom! Thursday, March 04, 2004
Two weeks old today. (But these pictures are all from yesterday...)
Lydia gained 9 oz in one week! As of 2:30 this afternoon, she now weighs 6lbs 6 ozs-- way to go, us! The pediatrician continues to report that Lydia is fine and healthy, and also very cute.
John and I were thrilled yesterday when Lydia lost the stump of her umbilical cord. We oohed and ahhed over her new innie. She seems a lot more "whole" now.
