Kate's Perspective

Well the rain has gone and now we are steaming in high humidity, high heat. Be careful what you ask for!

Yesterday at work, I would have had no trouble believing that I was living the introductory scenes of a classic murder mystery novel. My colleague and I went to a half-empty (expensive) house in a wealthy neighborhood where we met an art collector who is having marital difficulty, moving to the West Coast, and liquidating his assets. Two other art appraisers were in the house at the same time. Everyone was eager to please the owner who was very coarse and aggressive. It's only a matter of time before I am called into a room and questioned by Hercule Poirot. Thank God I didn't do it! -er- anything.

Tomorrow we are off to Denver for the 1st wedding. Since last weekend I have worked feverishly on an all new baby present... pictures to follow after the shower. Got to maintain some surprises! I'll take the sweater with me to work on en route, if I have time. Can't wait to get out of town! The perpetual rain has gotten really boring.

Monday, I moved into my new corner office at work. (!!) No promotion associated with the move, just reassignment of available space. I have six windows in the tallest building in the township. I can see all the way to Center City Philadelphia, ten miles away. The drawback is that louvered blinds do nothing to cut the glare on my monitor, so I will probably have migraines and vision loss within weeks.

I took a break from the baby sweater to start a sock from the toe up (a new technique for me, and really fun!). I must go back to the baby sweater asap since the deadline looms.... This weekend we are headed to a graduation party, a roof-top party, and then to clean our gutters, which are currently home to 100 small Japanese maple saplings. Oops! Next weekend it's a wedding in Colorado, and the following weekend, a baby shower in New York. This is an unusually social month for us. Introvert that I am, I have been preparing mentally for this for several weeks. I'm sure each event will be fun, but I expect to be pretty drained by month's end. So, yoga tonight, and more knitting. What an exciting chick I am.

From Hayfield 7141: Gorgeous Babies Knitting Book / My version, knit with baby alpaca.
GROAN.

I am knitting the above baby sweater as a gift. I think it's really cute, but the directions are giving me a headache. I triumphantly finished the front last night at 11:15 p.m. And then wondered why the sleeve edges were "stepped." [I think the problem began when I purled my garter stitch rather than knitting it, so the shaping instructions might be falling at the wrong ends on my rows. Don't know.] I double-checked the picture and confirmed that I'd have to rip out 2 inches and re-think. I wish the pictures in the book included diagrams of the finished pieces instead of only this action shot!

Oh. well. Isn't it cute though! I love the vents and the little collar. Wish me luck!

A COMPLETELY BORING WEEKEND.

Here are some photos I took last weekend with my new Palm. No special effects have been added.
