Kate's Perspective

My dad asked for a new pair of Jams for his birthday this year. They will replace a well-loved pair that I made for him in 1996 which replaced a well-loved UGLY pair that he bought at an end-of-season sale sometime in the 80s. Noone knows what happened to those shorts, although some family members suspect other family members of secretly giving them to Goodwill rather than having to look at them one more time.

I was delighted to pick out a wild fabric for the new shorts but immediately encountered problems locating the old pattern. It seemed impossible that the pattern wasn't with my sewing things-- I could swear I had seen it just a week before! ....Right, when I was cleaning out the sewing things and wondering when I would ever need a disintegrating men's swimsuit, tropical shirt, nautical pants pattern again. Patterns are so messy to keep around once they've been used. I guess I tossed it. Darn! So I started looking for a new pattern for pull-on elastic-waist shorts. The pickings were slim, but how different could one pull-on elastic-waist short be from another?

I am not enjoying discovering all the ways one can differ from another. I think it's time to order another 2 yards of Tapatio from Reprodepot, order a new swimsuit pattern (#2693) from Kwiksew, and start over.

Shoot!

I am wearing my new purple scarf today, and when I picked it out, I didn't really like all the little people on it. Today, they make me really happy. They are holding hands all over my scarf and they are dressed in the clothing of all different cultures. I have little kimono-clad people holding hands with harem girls and sheikhs and archaeologists and I don't know what all. It's like an upscale Denny's children of the world on my scarf. It's my private peace statement-- maybe not so private since it clearly states Hermes Paris on it.
