The vacation was great. It was warm and sunny and the company was good. Somehow, I managed to get sinusitis mid-week, which is really kicking in now that I'm home, but it didn't stop me from swimming and reading a ton of books. The reading list that follows is heavier on sensational non-fiction than my usual appetite demands.
I am already dreaming about the next vacation... Newfoundland in June? Maine in August? Manhattan for Valentine's Day? Probably all three.

MY HUSBAND MADE PAGE thirty-SIX!
That's right, the mustache growers are featured in today's New York Post. My quick dash to New York via Amtrak was well worth it to see the results of a month's growth and the World Famous Pontani Sisters. I won't reinvent the wheel: go to the official M4K page for a summary with photos.
Tomorrow, it's off to Vieques where it's currently 83 with scattered clouds. We aim to uphold the high entertainment standards set by last evening. Back in a week!

Okay, so I have not been very supportive of John's mustache. I have not practiced the golden rule of tact: “If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all.” I have actively disliked the mustache from Day One. This is really bad form on my part, since I was the one who told John about Mustaches for Kids.
About a year ago, I heard a funny story on Marketplace about some guys in LA who were growing mustaches for charity. Since John is an enthusiastic* guy who had often threatened to grow a pencil-thin David Niven mustache, I thought he would get a kick out of the story. Right I was. Within minutes he had contacted the LA group and worked out a plan for Mustaches for Kids NYC. The original plan was for the growing to begin last Valentine’s Day, but it was postponed and finally began just after Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, my own enthusiasm for the project waned over the summer. I was not very excited about the see-through patch of wiry stubble that my new husband was suddenly wearing in early December.
Well, they say the first year of marriage presents many challenges. I am happy to say that today is the next-to-last day of John's mustache. While I was stingy with my support early on in the Mustache project, I am very eager to show my support of its conclusion. (John has pledged to remain clean-shaven from now on.) I am leaving work early this afternoon and traveling to New York by train to celebrate the final hairy night with all the mustache growers. If you haven't already made a pledge to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation, don’t miss this chance!
*So enthusiastic, in fact, he was the winner of the Enthusiasm Award at Church Farm School Summer Day Camp.
